When the town of Ellicott City suffered disastrous consequences due to a “hundred year” flood, local businesses, non-profit organizations, and business development folks came together to do something to help people recover.

In partnership with The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCDEA), the Small Business Administration(SBA), Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD), Preservation Maryland, One EC Recovery Project, the Ellicott City Partnership (ECP), and Harkins Builders, The Verve Partnership opened the door to The Millworks Business Resource Center, named after the town’s legacy industry.

The bright office centralizes space for organizations into a single area. Business owners can  use workstations,  created in the mixed-use co-working space. The Center is a beacon to businesses and property owners to gain access to business and recovery resources.

It’s easy to see why the it provides hope in a time of loss. Big, open, airy spaces filled with bright white walls, exposed brick, and reclaimed wood are welcoming and peaceful. Loft like galleries that lead to individual offices bring an air of inclusion to the great room, and the homages to Ellicott City ground you.

It was an honor to provide pro-bono design services centered around community building, innovation and commitment to the rebuilding of Ellicott City.
