September 12, 2019 Supreme Ortho, I Wish I Worked Here Supreme Ortho, I Wish I Worked Here I Wish I Worked Here is a series full of drool-worthy workspaces that excite the mind. Today we are featuring Supreme Ortho in Columbia MD, one of the most successful medical device distributorships on the east coast. Everybody knows somebody who has had some sort of replacement surgery. From sports-related injuries to body parts just wearing out, modern medicine proves a modern miracle in medical devices that can replace problematic parts of our bodies. New knees, new hips, and fresh mechanics for broken wrists, Supreme Ortho supports the Operating Room with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Supreme Ortho is always thinking about the end user first and working backwards. They are building their standard operating practices and business model from the inside out. Who is the person on the operating table? What do they need? Who is in charge of making sure that the equipment is just the right size (think milifractions of difference that can make or break a successful recovery) and the perfect application? What do the surgeons need? Who’s Whose job is it to transport this very important cargo from Supreme Ortho HQ to the operating room? How can we make their job easier and reduce the amount of time spent accessing the equipment they need? And what about the people making it all happen behind the scenes? What do our people need to have a positive work experience? How can we help them do what they need to do by having a well-thought out workplace? Let’s not forget about future medical pros and industry partners. How can we make sure that every one of our future friends and allies get access to the most forward-thinking best practices and industry innovations? Ready to put money-to-mouth, Supreme Ortho built a strategy to capture this human-centered approach when it came time to build a new headquarters. Designing a cohesive workspace really works when we nurture a trusted partnership between designer, client and general contractor. Along with Supreme Ortho and Harkins, the general contractor, our team(s) took the time to truly understand how Supreme Ortho’s space would function and align with their business goals. We focused on how their employees, surgeons, clients, and visitors needed to interact between public and private spaces in order for all to have a positive and successful experience. Supreme Ortho not only required headquarters office space, they also needed a state-of-the-art wet lab and training facility where they can educate and create an open and inviting network space to host community building. Along with Supreme Ortho, together we created a space that seamlessly blends lab, workspace, training, education and social areas, unified, in one place. Why do we wish we worked here? Because Supreme Ortho walks the walk. All design decisions large and small were made with the user in mind. That means that from the moment an employee opens the door, they have everything they need to TEST – TRAIN – SELL medical joint technology. Can you imagine what it would be to go to work every day in a place that was built to set you up for success? #winning Here, the physical environment is an asset, not a liability. It’s in the way that the space flows. Imagine a journey that starts in reception, a soothing open space that invites you to feel at home here. If you’re a BOH rock star, your workday starts in the office. Chock full of collaboration spaces, conference rooms that you actually want to be in, and a glorious cafe that feels more like it belongs in a funky artspace than at work, the people who work here have a gorgeous (and functional!) office space that works for them, not against them. If you are managing the supply chain, you can get your hands on the right stuff, right now in the inventory area — organized for a workflow that will have you whistling, not cursing under your breath. If you’re a surgeon wanting to get some solid time in practicing your craft with the best-of-the-best in medical joint technology, you head to the lab, a real-world operating environment and teaching theater right in the middle of Supreme Ortho HQ. If you’re a distributor, you can enter through a private entrance and grab your pick-up straight from an exclusive cubby, eliminating costly mistakes and mismanagement. If you’re an industry ally, come party with us in the lounge, an entertaining and community area. Is it all business? No problem, we’ll just raise the garage door insert and reconfigure this modular space to prestage the lab experience. Supreme Ortho has a mission: for the patient to recover faster. They do this by making sure that the entire operating system, including the way the HQ functions, serves the people who use it. (And if we do our jobs right, this way of thinking will be the norm, not the exception.) See Supreme Orthopedics Systems page here.
