Over 20 years ago when the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification was launched, the concept of developing a sustainable and environmentally friendly building was so innovative that many people were hesitant to adopt the program. But over the years, LEED has become the standard for offices, schools, residences and more, said Lisa Ferretto, director of sustainability for Hord Coplan Macht Inc., a Baltimore architectural firm.
